Creativity, Innovation and Research lie at the heart of every scientific invention. Inventions, propelled by imaginative ideation and prudent execution, are manifestations of the talent possessed by students, and the education received by them. VOYAGE, 2025, (held on 11th and 12th of April), the technology fest, organised by the IQAC and the Institutions’ Innovation Council (IIC), OmDayal Group of Institutions (College of Engineering and Architecture, Affiliated to MAKAUT, accredited by NAAC, and approved by the AICTE and the COA), was a celebration of the unique talent of its students, and a platform for them to showcase their inventions in front of an objective audience. The odyssey of VOYAGE in the path of academic and professional excellence began in the year 2016. According to the principal, Prof. Yogesh Kumar Sinha, the primary objective of the tech fest is “To provide students with a platform to execute their thoughts and ideas, while learning the empirical methods of engineering science, and to inculcate in students the spirit of learning through collaboration and teamwork.” Keeping this spirit in mind, the college authorities not only involved its own students from seven departments (Computer Science and Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Basic Science and Humanities, Architecture and Management), but also extended an invitation to students of sixteen other reputed institutions to participate in the fest with their own inventions and enrich it with their respective innovations.

Department of Electrical Engineering

Tech Fest is a buzz in the Electrical Engineering Department as it is in the college. It brought tech enthusiasts and brilliant tech minds of our departments together to carve a niche to show expertise, creativity and innovations. Our departmental students presented a total of seven eye-catching projects which are listed below:

Hardware Prototyping of Real Time Satellite Tracker

In the last few years, many fishermen from India have lost their lives while fishing in oceans due to unpredictable weather conditions. So, the objective of the project is to design a low cost portable real time weather satellite tracking system to capture real-time data prediction of climatic events like cyclone tracking, intensity etc. In this work, an electro-mechanical arrangement is designed and programmed to interface with live satellites. This project is in the domain of Satellite Communication. In a nutshell, our students along with expert guidance provided invaluable contributions to the technical fest of the institute and the expert panel of judges chose Hardware Prototyping of Real Time Weather Satellite Tracker as the best Project. A whole hearted congratulations to the team.

Precision Custom Controlled and Mobile Based Real Time Monitoring and Protection of Electrical Loads

Mobile Based Real Time Monitoring and Protection of Electrical Loads in the area of Electrical Load Management is still a challenge. It is capable of measuring voltage, current, power and energy consumed. Additionally, we can set the upper limit of the current that can flow through the loads. If actual current exceeds the pre-set value, a warning indication will appear in the dashboard. Similarly, we can set the upper limit of the voltage that can appear across the load. If voltage exceeds the pre-set value, then a warning indication will appear in the dash board and the operator will hear buzzer sound and automatic necessary control will be imitated. This project belongs to the area of Electrical Load Management.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, OmDayal Group of Institutions, had showcased three Projects in the Technical Fest (Voyage 2025), organized by IIC and IQAC, ODGI, on 11th and 12th of April, 2025.

The theme of the projects was “Micro Marvels: Engineering the Future in Miniature”. The details of the projects are as follows:

The Modular Miniature Lathe

The Modular Miniature Lathe is an innovative creation in the field of manufacturing and mechanical machining systems. Targeting the Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering sector, the machine may serve the small-scale industries, vocational training institutes, engineering colleges, cottage and rural industrial units, home-based manufacturing startups, that aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives. Its advantages include affordability and scalability for MSMEs and educational use, lightweight portability for remote and rural applications, support for hands-on technical training, reduced entry barriers for small-scale machining, and facilitation of rapid prototyping and product design education. The lathe is applicable in mechanical workshops, skill development centers, portable repair stations, STEM and DIY education, and artisan tool development. The novelty of this first-of-its-kind modular miniature lathe lies in its unique integration of a modular architecture tailored for educational, industrial, and low-resource settings, addressing the limitations of conventional lathe systems in terms of portability, affordability, and adaptability, thus distinguishing it from standard lathe designs currently available in the market.

Compact Wind Power Generator

Compact wind power generators for two/four-wheelers are innovative, small-scale turbines designed to harness wind energy and generate electricity for vehicles. The concept involves mounting lightweight, aerodynamic turbines on the vehicle to capture airflow during motion, converting kinetic energy into electrical power via a generator. This power can charge batteries or directly support onboard systems. Applications focus on electric scooters, motorcycles, or small cars, particularly for extending range in hybrid or electric vehicles (EVs). They’re ideal for eco-conscious commuters, delivery services, or off-road enthusiasts needing portable energy in remote areas. Advantages include sustainability, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and supplementing battery life without external charging. Their compact size ensures minimal added weight, and they can integrate with solar panels for hybrid charging. However, limitations include dependency on vehicle speed and wind conditions. Efficiency drops in urban stop-and-go traffic, and installation may increase the drag. Future scope lies in advanced materials like carbon composites for durability, smarter turbines with variable blade angles, and integration with regenerative braking systems. As EV adoption grows, compact wind generators could become a standard range-extending feature, especially for long-distance travel, enhancing energy autonomy and sustainability. The novelty of the present work lies in using an Archimedes Spiral Turbine (AST) in place of traditional Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) or Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT). Its spiral design offers a unique approach to capturing wind energy, potentially revolutionizing vehicle-mounted systems.

Instant Cooling Sipper

An Instant Cooling Sipper powered by a Peltier module offers a cutting-edge solution for chilling beverages on demand. The Peltier module operates on the thermoelectric principle, where an electric current flows through two dissimilar materials, creating a temperature difference. This phenomenon, known as the Peltier effect, causes one side of the module to absorb heat while the other releases it. In the sipper, the cold side is positioned to cool the liquid inside the container, rapidly lowering its temperature, while the hot side dissipates heat into the surrounding air, often aided by a small fan or heatsink for efficiency. This design is compact, portable, and eliminates the need for traditional refrigerants or bulky cooling systems, making it ideal for personal use. The sipper can be powered by a rechargeable battery or USB, enhancing its convenience for outdoor activities, travel, or daily commutes. Unlike conventional cooling methods that require pre-chilling or ice, the Peltier-based sipper provides instant results, transforming a warm drink into a refreshing one in minutes. While energy consumption and cooling capacity depend on the module’s size and power, advancements in thermoelectric materials continue to improve its performance, promising an eco-friendly, efficient way to enjoy cold beverages anytime, anywhere.
